A/N: The woe continues. Still all Crystal's fault.
She's asleep in his arms and he's holding onto her and consciousness tightly.
Any minute now he'll wake up and she'll be gone again.
Or, if he's really lost it, the hallucination will break and he'll be left alone still.
It's hard, but he's trying. Earlier, as she helped him undress, his eyes never left her; and now as she's curled against his side, head resting on his shoulder, he keeps his arms encircled around her and his hand steadily strokes her hair. If he can feel her, touch her, hold her he can keep pretending this is real a little longer.
But he was drowning himself not too long ago; pulling down whiskey like it was air for the very purpose of numbing the pain and knocking himself out. It's the only way he can sleep anymore and now those efforts are catching up with him.
His eyelids are heavy and he knows his struggle is almost over.
Tightening his grip he pulls her in closer, pressing his lips to the top of her head.
"If-- if you go, Kate, there's s-somethin' I want you to know... I'm sorry... an' I-- I... "
His voice is soft and slurred but the sincerity comes through before his arms relax and his chin dips, eyes closed.
"I love..." you...
