Bradley gets on his nerves.

The first few days, it was just all the hassle Bill had to deal with bringing in the deputy. There's a lot of paperwork and finagling that comes along with a new transfer.

Not to mention all the phone calls and meetings. Swallowing frustration and pride had been the hardest chore when Bill was face-to-face with Kimbrell. The man was expecting gratitude for bringing in help for Bill and the department, and in order to keep that help and try to appease the one who's been on his back for months, Bill had to give in and lay it on as thick as possible.

Coming out of the meeting and running into Bradley going in only set the stone of irritation farther down in Bill's guts.

Everyone loves him.

Any newcomer is an instant celebrity in a small town like Wheelsy, but even after a couple weeks Bill is the only one who seems to think it's old already.

The worst part about it is Bradley seems like a really nice guy.

He has a hundred jokes, a million stories, and seems to know too damn much about everything, but he's also easy-going. Everyone he meets pals up to him right away, and he knows practically everyone by their first name already.

He also knows his job.

Bradley's eager to help, willing to listen, and takes whatever crap shift Bill gives him without complaint.

The new deputy also seems eager to spend time with the sheriff, so Bill sticks him with Rudy.

Things are starting to move back towards normal, and it's thanks to the extra body in the department.

The one Bill had nothing to do with bringing in.

Rudy is starstruck; Dave doesn't say a thing; and Bill finds that extra help and an easier schedule are doing nothing for the stress and frustration he feels, though he keeps a lid on it as best he can.

The last thing Bill needs is it getting out that he doesn't like the guy. Or worse, that he's jealous. Bill's not, of course. Bradley just bugs him some, that's all.
